Kyle’s European Adventure

Mishaps and sordid tales.

Whirlwind Weekend

On our way to the clubs! I managed to survive the last few days, and in the process, show Alapaki the time of his life. Saturday, we spent the afternoon with Jason. We attempted to go lay out on the pier, but only managed to get ourselves caught in a summer rain storm, and totally soaked. From there, we enjoyed a couple of margaritas, and then a quick nap. That evening, in celebration of Alapaki’s special day, we had a big dinner, and then a night of dancing. I managed to surprise him, and take him to hear his favorite DJ. We stayed out WAY too late, and had a blast.

Alapaki's Last Party Sunday was laid back – we slept in late, and then met back up with Josh in Brooklyn. Cory was in town, coming to the east coast to deal with a family emergency. It was good to see him, and offer him a bit of support. After he left, we baked cookies, napped, and generally lazed about. In the evening, we met Jeff for burgers, and drinks at Hiro – a party I’d never been to, which lived up to it’s very fun and cute reputation.

And this morning, after a lovely breakfast, I put Alapaki in a cab, and sent him to the airport to head home to San Francisco. I was completely surprised at how sad that made me feel – for the first time on this little journey of mine, I felt strangely alone. I know I’m in my home city, surrounded by friends and loved ones, but now I’m really a free agent – on my own, with no one to answer to but me. This is what wanted, this time to myself the primary reason I started this whole thing, but being confronted by it is strangely terrifying.

So, I’m going to send out the feelers – reach out and touch all the people I care about in this metropolis and start reconnecting with all the friends who mean something to me. This week I want to wind down, center myself, and start enjoying my own company. I’ve got many months ahead of me, so I’d better get used to being all the company I need, right?

To my main gay Kyle. Mahalo nui loa (thank you so much) for showing me an AMAZING time in NYC. I loved meeting your friends and seeing your New York. You showed me an amazing birthday … and do I dare mention we had a big banana split before going out dancing. “Eat your fudge fatty!” Thanks for showing me a great time.

I’m totally envious, of two things, really.

First, the whirlwind weekend sounded awesome; kudos, K.

Second, you’re so brave & smart & awesome! I’m totally excited for you on your trip, and envy you the opportunity to recenter & explore Europe all at the same time. You’re so fecking zen; bravo!
