One of the reasons I’ve really been looking forward to taking this trip was to get a bit of down time. I have a bad habit of filling every free moment of my time with activities, hanging out, socializing, etc, and I was excited to have some downtime – days with nothing to do. But, true to form, my time here in New York has been jam packed with events, engagements, and catching up. Not that I’m complaining – I’ve loved getting to see everyone and catch up with them. It just seems that my hectic schedule is more of a character flaw than I first assumed.
Last I posted was a week ago, and I’ve managed to keep quite busy since then. Thursday night found Mayumi dragging Josh, Max and I through the heart of Chinatown in search of the “worlds best peking duck”. We found it, and had to admit that Mayumi was completely right – it was amazing! We were the last people in the dining room, stuffing our faces with duck and cracking up at Mayumi’s work stories.
Friday was a very lazy day of sleeping in, and catching a movie with Kevin. We saw the French film, Priceless, which I LOVED. From there, I headed to Brooklyn, where I met up with my old friend Nic. We hadn’t seen each other in years, in it was such a great chance to catch up. He took me to Fette Sow in Williamsburg, which is a German restaurant where all they serve is meat. It was SO good, but I’m pretty sure I gained 10 pounds.
My weekend was spent with Jason, who’s birthday was on Sunday. Saturday, we met on the pier and laid out in the sun for a few hours. After having our fill of that, we hit the Cowgirl Hall of Fame for margaritas and greasy food. From there, we went to see Get Smart, and finally out to the East Village for some drinks. Sunday was a bit of a rush – Brunch with Molly, drinks with The Marine, and finally birthday dinner with Jason and his best friend, Anthony, and then off to see Broadway Bares.
Now I’m in my last few days in New York, and it seems like it went by WAY too fast. I have too many people left to see, too many things I still want to do, and I know before I can catch up, it will be friday morning, and time to head up to Boston. It has been so amazing being back here in my first home, seeing everyone, catching up, making new memories, and reminding myself why I thought this town was so great in the first place.
