Kyle’s European Adventure

Mishaps and sordid tales.

Farewell, NYC

June 27th, 2008 · No Comments

And so it ends – after two weeks and change, I’m leaving New York City. The first leg of my trip is over, and it’s left me feeling a bit melancholy. When I first started planning this trip, setting aside an entire month to visit my family and bum around New York seemed like MORE than enough time – I figured I’d probably get a bit bored with it. Of course, New York ended up being a tornado of activity, and I’m leaving feeling like there are 100 more things I needed to do and people to see.

On the Mama Mia Stage, with Sopihe! Last night, Josh and I grabbed dinner and then went to see Mama Mia. He has three clients in the show, so after a dazzling performance, he took me backstage where I got to meet the cast. I even managed to get my photo taken on the stage with the amazingly talented girl who plays Sophie. From there, I headed home, slept (and sweated in the New York heat), and the was up in the morning to catch the boltbus to Boston.
I’m excited to be starting the next leg of my trip – I get to see my family tonight, and sunday we leave for Europe. My mother has quite the itinerary planned for us, and I’m sure it’s going to take all my energy to keep up, pay attention, and take great photos.

And then comes Berlin – the leg of my trip that I’m most looking forward to. I’ve never actually traveled alone. I always take friends or family, or meet people I know. I’m seeing a running theme in my musings on this trip, and I think the primary point for me is getting to spend time with myself. I feel myself drawing in, making my world smaller, and by the time I settle in germany, it should be pretty solitary. I just need to make sure I can find an english language bookstore when I get there!
