I’m hitting the road for the long drive up to Portland, where I’m going to crash with my parents for a week. It’s free rent, free food, and waterskiing on the riving for me.

I’m so sad to be leaving my friends and loved ones here, but that’s all part of the deal, I guess. We all went to see Sex in the City last night, and it was a fitting farewell – a testament to best friends. It’s a huge comfort to know I’ve got my family here to come home to when this adventure is over.

I keep thinking “this is my last monday of work.” I’m pretty sure my brain is already on vacation, and my body just has to catch up.

I spent most of the weekend with friends – just enjoying their company, laughing, eating and soaking up the sunny weather this weekend. I’ve had more than one person tell me that I seem “off”, that my energy is weird, or that I seem anxious, or distant. I guess the reality of leaving for such a long time is sinking in, and I’m starting to pull away from my life here. I don’t think it’s an intentional thing, just… how it’s working out.

So, two weeks from today, I’ll be driving north to spend a week with my parents in Portland, OR. Before then, I have to pick a couple of books on tape to get me there. I love an excuse to go shopping on iTunes. :)

Making this blog pretty.

I’ve found a theme I like, and I got the picture bar at the top to work the way I want. Once I leave, the latest photos I’ve taken and posted to my flickr page will stream along the top, just under the header. I’m also using the very slick Lightbox plugin to display the photos when you click on them. Try it – it’s NEATO.

I suppose I should start focusing on things like “where am I going to live” now.
